After lots of planning and preparing, I must say prom was a successful! On Friday, I attend my high school, Rosati-Kain, prom. Then on Saturday, I attended Chaminade's Prom with a friend of mine. Friday, seniors were dismissed from classes at noon. That left me with about three and a half hours to get my hair and make-up done, my over night bag and clutch packed before I had to leave in order to be at my friends house in time for pictures. I wore a navy, peplum bcbg dress that had a bow in the back and I had my hair braid with pearls and curled, I then accessorized with more pearls. We took pictures at my friends house, my high school, the Cathedral Basilica, and Forest Park. After pictures we headed to Rose on Hill where are prom was being held. We were served a not so tasty dinner, had poor music, and were in a small space but that did not hold us back from having fun. After prom, we were picked up by the huge party bus. Our first stop was my friends house were we changed, had some snacks, then got back on. We had a blast dancing and singing on the bus and before we knew it out time was up and we got dropped off. We were all sore and tired from all the dancing. The next morning, we went to breakfast as a group then went home so we could "recover" in our own beds. Let's just say I could have slept all day, but sadly I had to start getting ready so I could do it all again. My hair had stayed curled from all the hair spray from the night before so I just combed it out so the curls were loose and wavy. I parted my hair and twisted the sides back then concealed the pony tail that held it all together with hair. I wore a simple and sleek black backless dress, but wore bold gold accessories. I finished getting ready with three of my girl friends before we meet the rest of the group at Sunset Country Club. We took pictures and ate a great meal then we loaded up a (smaller) party bus. We arrived at the Science Center where the prom was being held around nine o'clock. Upon our arrival we were given tons of glow in the dark accessories from necklaces to glasses to balls. There was a light show and we danced the night away. After prom was over we headed back to my dates house for an eventful and fun after party. My friends and I took a cab home and cherished our three hours asleep before we had to work a brunch. I must say, I had a fun, busy, and very memorable weekend.

15 Prom Essentials
Sure we all remember the dress, perfect heels, and jewelry. But what about everything else! Prom can be an exciting time, but no night is going to go perfect. Making sure you've packed a few beauty essentials into your prom bag can help you keep your cool and stress-free. Here are fifteen recommended products to take with you on your big night:
Face Products to Put in Your Purse for Prom Night
1. Mirror. It's always a good idea to have a discrete pocket mirror on hand in case you need to check on something instead of going into the bathroom.
2. Blotting Sheets. Used to minimize the visibility of oil and to control shine, blotting wipes or pads can come in handy.
3. Compact. Having your favorite powder (I like translucent) with you at prom can help your skin stay beautiful and oil free all night long.
4. Tissue. Hopefully you won't have to pull out your tissue in front of your date and actually blow your nose, but it's better to have it just in case. Tissues also can help fix make-up and clean up small spills.
Hair Products to Have on Hand
5. Bobby Pins. Depending on your hair style and length, you may also want to throw a few clips and hair ties into your prom purse as well.
6. Mini Hairspray. To play it safe, go ahead and pack a miniature bottle of your hairspray to use in the event that your hair needs some touching up over the course of the evening.
Mouth Aids for the Evening
7. Mints or Gum. Having mints on hand can give you a quick way to freshen up and share with others.
8. Floss. Hopefully you won't need it, but what is worse then spending an entire evening with food stuck in your teeth?
9. Chap stick. "Whereeee's the chap stick?" You will be every one's best friend if you are the one who remembers to bring chap stick, so hopefully you won't mind sharing.
10. Lipstick or gloss. Pack your chosen lipstick or lip gloss to touch up.
Body Products to Carry with You
11. Deodorant. Particularly if an outfit change will occur between prom and some after-after-prom activity, you may want to bring a travel size deodorant or antiperspirant with you to reapply.
12. Perfume. Packing a small bottle of perfume in your bag can help ease any odor-worries.
13. Lotion. Keeping a skin-hydrating agent around can also help you feel and look your best. Lotion is especially important if you have a spray tan. I like to pack shimmery lotion for prom.
14. Tampon or Pad. Even if you're not expecting to be on your period, it's always good to have some protection on hand in case the need arises for yourself or for your girlfriends.
15. Medicine. I like to keep a small pill container with Advil and allergy medicine to have just in case.
Lastly, throw in some keys, your cell phone (that is fully charged), plastic bandages, safety pins and some cash & a credit card--and you're ready to go. Have fun! Hopefully this helps you on your prom night like it did on mine!

Prom Prep
Prom is right around the corner and although it may seem like you are ready to go- you have your dress and shoes after all right? If only it was as simple as that. There are party buses or transportation to be booked, after parties to be planned, hair and nails appointments to be set, and so much more.
Two months before prom: Book hair and makeup appointments
Because everybody is trying to get them done, make sure you schedule two months in advance. If you plan on doing your hair and makeup yourself, then that's also the time to start trying different looks at home. YouTube is such a great place to go when you just want to learn how to do certain things, pinterest is also helpful.
One month before prom: Book Transportation and Party House
Weather you are renting a party bus, limo, driving yourself or having your parents drive you it is important to get it booked and have a plan for transportation because no one wants to be left ride-less after prom. I don't know about you, but I do not plan on going to home and to bed right after prom. Start looking around and book a house that can accommodate your group, cabins or lake houses are always fun. If you plan on going to a friends house after for a party make sure the parents are okay with it all too.
Two weeks before prom: Teeth whitening
Start whitening your teeth using a product like Crest White Strips or a Hydrogen Peroxide/ Baking Soda paste.
Just over a week before prom: Get a facial and a Hair Treatment
"I find that after people get facials, they can breakout a little that day or the next day because their skin is getting rid of the impurities. So you want to give yourself time." You want your hair to be healthy for prom so get a hot oil or deep conditioning treatment.
One week before prom: Brow maintenance
Do not wait till the day before (or even few days before) prom you'll end up getting marks, and makeup doesn't stick on the skin there. I'd say go a week out. However, if you go two weeks, you'll start to see regrowth.
Two days before prom: Sunless tanning
Do a trial run about two or three weeks before. You don't want to get your actual spray tan a week before the prom because it'll fade, and usually by day four it starts getting a little splotchy. Do it a day or two before, so it's really fresh and even. Make sure you shave and exfoliate before and wait to shower until the day after. As soon as your shower load up on lotion because your tan stays longer when its moisturized.
The day before prom: Get a manicure and prep
Make sure you get your nails done after you get a spray tan because the tanner can have an effect on your nails. If you can't find a color that matches your dress perfectly, gold/silver always look nice or a classic French manicure. Don't forget about your toes too! If you don't want to spend the money or if you get squeezed out of an appointment, the Sally Hansen nail stickers are always easy and look nice.
It is important to wash your hair the night before your hair appointment because day old hair is easier for your hair dresser to work with. Pack bags for after party and a clutch so you do not have to worry about it later. Check out my clutch must haves*
The day of prom: Time to get ready
Shower and moisturize. Wear loose comfortable clothes and a shirt/jacket that can be easily taken off without messing up your hair. Arrive to hair and make-up early and bring ideas for the make up artist and stylist. When you are getting ready for your special night it is important to remember to stay hydrated and eat, nothing is worse then a hungry crabby stressed out girl. Make sure you allow plenty of time to arrive to pictures on time!
Last, remember to take tons of pictures and have the time of your life! After all you will always treasure this memorable night!
I hope this helps for all those looking ahead to prepare for prom! Keeping a scheduled allowed me to have a smooth & (less) stressed prom night!

Monogrammed Monday
Happy Monogrammed Monday! After a busy weekend filled with fun wedding events, I am not ready to go back to school. However, Monogrammed Monday once again gives me an excuse to talk about monograms. Recently, I purchased some fun new accessories from Etsy and thought I should share them.
First, I purchased vinyl stickers from monogramsandmore2. The stickers are one inch, three inch, and five inches. Vinyl stickers are perfect for any surfaces and add a perfect slash of fun and color. Monogram stickers are also a great way to personalize you things such as laptops and water bottles.
Second, I purchased monogrammed hair bows from Yzzybeez. Although I hardly ever wear hair bows, I still think they are cute and fun. I plan on using these bows as accessories on bags. Hair bows are really easy to attach to any kind of bag by clipping them to the handle. Bows add girly-ness, fun, and personalization.
I like purchasing items from Etsy because many of the shops are small businesses and they usually have exactly what I am looking for and the prices are reasonable. I hope everyone else is having a great Monday and if not find some monograms to brighten your day! What are your favorite monogrammed accessories?

Memories of March
Where has time gone? March flew by! I had a month filled with events from parades and road trips, to brunches and my beautiful cousin's wedding- it felt as though every weekend I had was packed! I made many memories this March that I will cherish including events such as Mardi Gras, Senior Mother Daughter Brunch, my last R-K pep rally, St. Patrick's Day, Spring Break trip to Gulf Shores, Mr. & Mrs. Jackstadt Wedding, and going out with my friends. My favorite thing about March was that after a long, harsh winter- spring was finally here! Overall March was a great month filled with family, friends, laughs, and tears of joy.

I still can't believe March is over, it truly went by in a blink of an eye! With March now complete and as we move into April, the first thing I realize is my friends and I have less than a month and a half left! I know we will make the most of our time left as Rosati-Kain Kougars and cherish every minute! I am looking forward to a busy April as well and especially cannot wait for Prom season and Easter! I hope every one else had a great March as well!

Celebrating Mr. & Mrs.Jackstadt
This past weekend was filled with all things wedding. From the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, to the wedding celebration and reception on Saturday to unpacking gifts and centerpieces Sunday, I spent a lot of time with my family. I was fortunate enough to be chosen by my cousin to be a bridesmaid in the wedding. Saturday we all got ready at the crack of dawn and from there the day flew by. My cousin and her fiancé got married in my families church- St. Norbert. Although it may not have been the warmest day it was still beautiful and we took tons of pictures at several locations around St. Louis. The reception was held at the Frankilin Room in Soulard and was a ton of fun. I was so proud of my cousin, the bride, for all te hard work and time she put into crafting the centerpieces and decorations by herself. I thought I share a few of the many pictures from the weekend.
I love spending time with my family and I also love witnessing something as beautiful as a marriage between two people I care about. Weddings are such a fun celebration! Although, it was a stressful and busy weekend, I would not have traded it for the world. Lets be real though, who doesn't love weddings?

Monogrammed Monday
Happy Monogrammed Monday! It's the Monday after Spring Break and classes are slow and boring and I can tell this is going to be a busy week. However, Monogrammed Monday gives me a great excuse to talk about monograms. I like monogrammed anything but one of my favorite things to monogram is clothing, especially sweaters. I have several monogrammed sweaters. I like monograms on my sweater because they are classic and give a plain sweater some pop of color or fun. I never buy my sweaters from websites or shops that specialize in monogram clothing and accessories. Instead, I like to buy my own sweaters and get my monogram embroidered. This way I get exactly the type of sweater I want and the exact monogram I want, it is also generally less expensive as well.
Above are examples of some of my monogrammed sweaters. I like monogramming clothing because monograms are the perfect accessories. Monograms allow you to personalize your clothing and truly make it your own. I hope everyone is having a great Monday if not, find some monograms to brighter your day!

Spring Break aka SB2K14
This past week I was on Spring Break. After seven days spent with my friends staying up late and relaxing all day, I am dreading waking up at the crack of dawn for school tomorrow. From laying out and getting sunburned to long walks on the beach, I must say I had a great Spring Break.
I spent my first days in St. Louis then road tripped to Gulf Shores, Alabama. The twelve hours in the car were definitely worth it after I stepped foot in the soft white sand. I enjoyed laying out on the beach, playing paddle ball, and attempting to fly kites as well as long walks, collecting sea shells, and reading in the sand. The small condo was perfect for us girls to bond and enjoy our time together from watching and quoting Bridesmaids to making fun dinners, snacks, and drinks. Although I did not want to leave the seventy-five degree beach, I was looking forward to my mother's cooking, my dog, and my bed. However, I must say it wasn't the perfect trip due to the horrible sunburn I had after the first day which turned into sun poisoning, swollen feet, and blisters.
I am going to miss the beach and the free time, but I must say I am looking forward to getting back on a schedule. I have a busy week coming up including my first day of working with theatre from social change, managing the first varsity soccer game, my last R-K pep rally, and being a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding. It's crazy to think how quickly senior year is going by, but I will just continue to live each and every day to the fullest. I hope everyone else had a great Spring Breaks too!

The Day of Luck
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope everyone had a great sunny St. Patty's day full of green, luck, and laughs. I am lucky enough to live in a city with strong Irish heritage. I celebrated on Saturday with my friends. It was a perfect, sunny spring day. We all went downtown to the parade and had a great time together with my friend's crazy Irish family. After the parade we all went back to my friends house were we feasted on food and laughs. It was a fun filled day and I am so glad I got to spend it with some of my closest friends. I am looking forward to getting back together with my friends to celebrate events like this even though we all are attending different schools.
Monday, my mom had family over for a St. Patrick's day feast. Even though my family is only about 10% Irish my mom still like to celebrate and decorate the house. We had a huge dinner of corned beef, cabbage, Ruben sandwiches, roasted potatoes, and even green jello.
I hope everyone else had a great St. Patrick's Day. I am looking forward to seeing more green as spring is just around the corner.

The Beauty of Pro/Con Lists
As my friends and many of my classmates know, I LOVE to make list. I love to plan, organize and create any and all types of list. The easy way to do this is on paper and different color pens. My favorite pens to use are the Papermate flair pens. They come in wide variety of colors. They are bold and do not bleed through paper. I enjoy writing in my planner with these pens and making all kinds of list- such as to-do list, packing list, planning list, and pro/con list, any list you name it. Over these past weeks I have been making many pro/con list for both myself and my friends. Pro/con list are very useful for making decisions, such as college decisions. I thought I should share how I make my pro/con list.
As seen in the picture above, this pro/con list is specifically for making college decisions:
1. Choose the two things you want to compare- in this case two colleges.
2. In one color title the paper, make points you want to compare (size, cost, location, basic facts)
3. Then make titles for separate pro con list (such as certain programs, academics, student life)
4. Fill out the information using a different pen for each college. For pros use a + as a bullet point and for cons use a - as a bullet point.
5. Any information you cannot find online, contact your admissions counselor.
6. After completing your pro/con list read through and add all the pros and subtract all the cons.
As seen in the picture above, this pro/con list was also created for making a college decision but really could be used for anything:
1. Define the two things you are comparing, and title your list.
2. Use different color pens: a pro pen, a con pen, and a fact pen.
Or
1. Define the two things you are comparing, and title your list
2. Make a pro column and a con column.
3. Use as many different color pens and compare. For example in orange a pro for Quincy is the price, and still in orange a con for UMKC is how expensive it is.

Spring Break Packing
Who doesn't love going out of town or on a road trip with their friends? Who doesn't love the beach? Next week I am going to Gulf Shores with some of my friends for Spring Break. As I said before in my previous post, I love making lists. When I go on trips I make a list of clothes I need to pack, toiletries I need to pack, food I need to pack, other things I need to pack, and items I still need to buy. I know a little OCD, but I just love making lists. Making lists for trip help me not to over pack, help me not to forget anything and also help me not forget anything when I head back home. I do not leave until Tuesday, but I am practically already packed because I am so excited. I cannot wait to wear sundresses and sandals, tank tops and bikinis. I am looking forward to a great trip my friends and their moms. To make this trip fun for us, my friends and I got matching tank tops made and all are packing the same blue comfort color tees, coral spirit jerseys, and monogrammed baseball caps. We also are making matching bejeweled water bottles and some other crafts. Tuesday cannot come soon enough!
Instead of making everyone jealous by talking about all the summery clothes I am packing or all the beach essentials I will be needing, I decided to talk about something else. It is almost a fifteen hour car ride so I thought I should share with you some items I am packing for the car ride.
1. Snacks
Everyone knows snacks are one of the most important part of road trips. Whether you enjoy sweets, salty, or healthy, everyone loves snacks. Snacks are also great for road trips because people cannot talk while their chewing! Some of my favorite road trip snacks are popcorn, trail mix, and suckers.
2. Water
It is important to always stay hydrated even while you are in the car so water is a necessity. Water is the best drink to bring on road trips because it has no caffeine, no sugar, and is easy to clean up if there are spills.
3. Pillow and Blanket
These two are the most important for me. I always take a pillow and blanket with me when I travel. Why? I love sleeping in cars. I am always cold so a blanket is a must. I also am very picky about hotel pillows and blankets, so I just always play it safe and bring my own.
4. Phone Essentials
Can any leave their house without their phone and their phone essentials? I carry headphones, chargers, power bars (portable chargers), and phone cases with me daily. Phone essentials are extra important when you are cooped up in a car for fifteen hours. How am I suppose to be iastagraming, tweeting, facebooking, pinteresting, blogging, and texting my mom without a fully charged phone?
5. Reading Material
Trips are a great time to read! You have so much time to kill in the car and reading is relaxing. Whether you enjoy reading novels, magazines, school books, or even cook books. I plan on taking some school books, magazines and a novel with me on this trip.
What do you like to pack for road trips? Who else is excited for spring break? Looking forward to sharing my trip with you all when I get back!

College Decisions
My fellow seniors will all agree with my when I say it is tough to make a college decision. As this time of the year rolls around seniors are becoming more stress because not only is it harder to concentrate on homework and studying but also because there is a lot of work with college admissions. When applying for schools, I suggest filling out applications for any schools you might be thinking about at all. This is why I ended up applying to seventeen schools. However, after receiving my scholarship packets, visiting the schools, and researching, it was easy to narrow down the list to four. My top four were UMKC 6 year BA/MD program, Quincy University, Rockurst University, and St. Louis University. When doing my research on these schools I looked into their pre-med program, student to teacher ratio/relationships, research and internships available, distance from home, opportunities in the community, and cost over four years. After attending some interviews, I was able to define my top two- Quincy University and UMKC. From here, I have been working on specific pro/con lists as well as communicating frequently with my admission and guidance consolers. In the next post I will share with you a great way how to make a pro/con list. Good luck to everyone else who are trying to make college decisions!

2014 Acadamy Awards
As long as you do not live under a rock, I am sure you were aware that the Academy Awards were hosted tonight. Although I can honestly say I have not seen a single film that was nominated for an Oscar, I still watched the entire show with my family. In fact, my mother was so into it she had an Oscar's Party. We had little appetizers and she made me my favorite food- popcorn. We also filled out ballots for who we thought were going to be the winners. Obviously, I won the ballot game... Just kidding- my father did! One thing I do enjoy about the Academy Awards though is all the beautiful actresses and actors. So, instead of doing homework I came up with my 2014 Best Dressed:
1. Lupita Nyong'o
2. Cate Blanchett
3. Jennifer Lawrence
4. Olivia Wilde

I hope everyone is enjoying the Oscars and a peaceful Sunday night!
I am praying for a snow day tomorrow, not only cause I have been putting off my Western Civ essay but also cause it will be a cold, boring, Monday!

Happy Late Mardi Gras!
I know this is late- by a whole week... but any way Happy Mardi Gras! For those of you who do not know what Mardi Gras is I can provide a brief history. The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries to the France. From here, the traditional revelry of "Boeuf Gras," or fatted calf, followed France to her colonies which is why it ended up in New Orleans. There are many traditions that go along with Mardi Gras from the fun mask, purple, green, and gold beads to balls and crazy parades. But most importantly the food, after all it is Fat Tuesday. I celebrated Mardi Gras with my friends at the parade downtown. Did you know St. Louis has the second largest Mardi Gras celebration in the USA? I also had a Fat Tuesday feast with my family were I enjoyed all the foods I will be abstaining from during lent. I must say I had a fun Mardi Gras and I am diffidently looking forward to the next holiday filled with parades and parties- St. Patrick's Day!

Memories of February
February went by so fast! It feels like it was yesterday that I was in Quincy with my family for my cousins shower, celebrating my Aunt Jenni's 50th birthday, and cheering on the seniors in their final swim meet. Other February events that are highlighted in the photo collages below include valentines day, roar week, Rosati-Kain winter dance and just time spend with my friends. Overall February was a fantastic month with jammed packed weekends. I went on three college interviews this month, attended three wedding showers for my cousin Aimee, traveled to Kansas City twice, visited my boyfriend in Columbia, spent the weekend at our family farm in Quincy, set up and cleaned up winter dance with stuco, shared countless laughs and car rides with my friends, and made memories with those I love.

Since February is now over, and I plan on focusing on March and the upcoming months- especially my final months of high school. I hope you all had great Februarys as well!

My Favorite Shows
In honor of Scandal and Grey's Anatomy retuning tonight, I thought I should post about my favorite tv shows. As I have mentioned before I do not watch that much tv, however when I do I tend to favor certain shows and that's about all I watch- unlike my brother who has watched 27 tv series completely. Luckily tonight, my two absolute favorite shows came back after taking breaks for the Olympic Games- Scandal & Grey's Anatomy. I won't spoil anything for those who haven't watched them yet, but they continued to entertain me. Now that Scandal & Grey's Anatomy are back on their regular Thursday night times I am going to have to manage my schedule and add two hours for these addicting shows- praise the lord for DVR though. Another show I enjoy watching with my mom is Revenge. Lastly, I have two go to shows that are off the air which are Sex and the City & Desperate Housewives. I know it's shocking that I am not into Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill, or Gossip Girl like many of my peers. What's your favorite TV show?

Senior Year Isn't All Fun & Games
Do not get me wrong, senior year is a ton of fun. We are finally the "rulers" of the school and have those "rights" such as sitting in the back of the café that we have dreamed about since freshman year. We have less than a year left, then we are out of this place and on to bigger and better things. However, senior year isn't all fun and games.
On behalf of my fellow seniors, I think I can go ahead and say senior year is not as great as it is cut out to be. Not only do you have to deal with the stress of applying to colleges, universities, and programs but also the stress of waiting anxiously to hear back from these school and then the disappointing possibility of not getting accepted. There are also scholarships that a student must apply for as well, because we all have to face the fact that college is expensive. Then comes the decisions and boy can they be tough. Currently I am deciding between UMKC six year BA/MD program that I will not notified of my final acceptance until April and Quincy University to which I received a Presidential (full-ride) scholarship. Both are great schools, but are completely different. One of my task this week is to go through and create a pro/con list which I will share later.
Besides the stress of college there also comes a heavy course load. Well... depending on the classes you take I should say. Currently I am taking Spanish IV, Western Civilization, AP Physics, AP Calculus, Literature, and Religion. The first four are dual credit courses through Saint Louis University. The way I view is why not take the most difficult and challenging classes? So I guess I really cannot complain about the course load or being stress because of school because it was ultimately my decision. I must also add I am very well at managing my time. I have ten free periods in my schedule which really allows me to complete some of my homework at school, although I personal prefer to complete it at home. However, there are so many things I like to be involved with such as sports, clubs, volunteering, and school events so it is nice to have the opportunity to complete homework and studying during the free periods.
Finally, the worst part about senior year is how fast it goes by. Today it hit me that I have just a little over two and a half months left of school. How sad is that? I honestly love my school- although many of my friends cannot wait to get out. The memories and friends I have made at Rosati-Kain are something I will always treasure. This past weekend I attended my final Student Council hosted dance- Winter Dance. It was so bittersweet. Some of the final senior events I am looking forward to are mother daughter brunch, senior prayer day, spring break, prom of course, and finally senior night. My goal for the rest of this school year is to truly just cherish every event and the time I have left with my classmates and close friends because it honestly will be over in a blink of an eye.
In conclusion, senior year is a lot more stressful and anxious than you can prepare for, however, it is still a thrilling and great time. So make the most out of it with your friends, school, and even loved ones because you will be living a completely different life come this time next year. Treasure each and every moment and live each day to the fullest because there is no going back. Finally, I would like to leave you with a quote that describes how I plan on viewing these few months of high school I have left :
"I am so blessed with my life. I do not want this time of my life to end, I do not want to take anything for granted. I do not want to grow up or leave too fast, so I am just going to enjoy every minute of it" - Dakota Fanning

Much Needed Stress Relief
After a weekend filled with setting and cleaning up for a dance, hanging out with friends, visiting my boyfriend in Columbia, traveling to Kansas City with my parents, and to top it off an intense Monday filled with interviews, test taking, and stress what is the first thing I do when I come home? No not homework, not sleep... blog. Am I becoming that girl? Honestly no, I just don't feel like doing homework my brain is fried, and I don't feel like going to bed because I just can never fall asleep early. So instead, I am sitting hear watching Scandal (wooohoo comes back on Thursday!), drinking apple cranberry tea, and creating new blog post.
One of the best ways I deal with stress and how I relax is honestly by keeping myself busy, as weird as that sounds. I hate just sitting there doing nothing, I am a huge multitasker. I feel so guilty just sitting there watching tv doing nothing, instead I have to be working on a craft, project, or blogging. I also like to drink tea or any drink really- coffee, smoothies, slushies, hot chocolate. So that is what I find myself doing now. Watching tv, drinking tea, and blogging is helping me get rid of the stress I accumulated from this weekend, especially this interview day.
Today, I woke up at 5:45 am to get ready and eat breakfast before my interview. I had to check in at 7:15 and the campus was approximately 15 minutes away from my hotel. Although I had prepared somewhat for the interview day by studying chemistry and medical school interview topics, I was still very intimidated. It was a very formal and professional event. I had a strict schedule to follow which included informative sessions, meetings with admissions and students, an assessment exam and of course the interviews. UMKC school of medicine interviews are based on the MMI (multiple mini interview) system. So how that worked, is that I went into a room with ten other students and inside the room there were 20 certain off stations- 10 prep stations and 10 interviewing/discussion stations. I had two minutes to read an scenario and eight minutes to discuss the scenario with the interviewer then answer any questions I was present with. The scenarios and questions asked were nothing anyone could expect. One of the hardest parts was trying to keep a discussion for eight minutes because it is better to talk the entire time instead of have them fill time with questions or have the interviewer send you back to your prep station. The time went by fast and it was intense. After five stations we had a break and some of the students were about to break down. However I just tried to smile and remain focused. I was so relieved after the day was over finally, all I wanted to do was go out to dinner with my parents. There was so much tension and stress present throughout the day from all of the students, I also felt very intimated because I was definitely a minority there and because I was interviewing for such a prestigious program. I was so glad to get into the car after with fresh Topsy's popcorn (my favorite food) waiting for me. I was even offered a beer (root beer of course) by my dad. Overall I think the day was a great experience and no matter what the outcome is I am happy with how it went. Ultimately I am left with some tough decisions, but I am just proud I was one of the 300 students who was offered an interview from the 1500 who applied.

College Interview Prep
As many of you know, I have attended several college interviews this past month. Monday, I am interviewing with UMKC School of Medicine for their 6 year BS/MD program. In order to do well in an interview in general, you must prepare for it. Preparing for an interview not only expands your knowledge of yourself and the school you are interested in, but it also boost your confidence and helps calm your nerves on the day your interview is scheduled for.
So, here are my tips and tricks for college interview prep:
1. Talk to your guidance counselor!
Not only will he or she be able to give you some tips and notes from other students' past experiences, but he or she will also provide you with reading supplements for interviewing, as well as help you practice with a mock interview.
2. Do your research!
Do some background research on the school you are interviewing at. Pay close attention to their mission, values, history and core statement. If you are interviewing for a specific program, do your research on that as well.
3. Find some practice questions!
There are mock interview questions all over the web. Look up some questions and be able to answer those questions well. However, do not be surprised when they throw in some curve balls. In general be able to answer: Tell me about yourself? What is your biggest weakness/strength? Why do you want to attend our university? Who is your role model? What do you enjoy? What do you plan on going in your life? BUT REMEMBER THEY CAN ASK ANYTHING. When answering questions include anything that will set you apart from the other students, such as being a president of a club or winning this award and such.
4. Always have a question prepared to ask them!
And not just any question you can find the answer to online, like how big is your student body? Some questions I asked at my interviews were: How do freshman get involved with research? Do your students ever go on mission trips? How many students study abroad? What is the best thing students gain from attending your school?
5. The general rules!
Smile, sit up straight, shake their hand before and after, say "nice you meet you, how are you","thank you so much for you time", make eye contact, do not fidget in your chair or hair or fingers, and do not watch the clock for time. Try to avoid words like: ummm, like, and any slang words. Try to find something that will put you on the same level as the interviewer. For example, I had a chemistry professor and I had a great conversation with her about their pre-medicine program and research opportunities; or I had a priest as my interviewer so I had a conversation with him about how students get involved with service. Also take a few seconds to think about what you are going to say before you answer your question, this helps you avoid rambling.
6. What to wear!
It is better to overdress then to under dress, but most importantly look "put together." To my interviews I wore black dress pants, a matching black blazer, a nice (modest) dress shirt, a black patent belt, and black patent flats. Always wear flats! The interview day normally consist of more than just interviews. It usually includes information sessions, a lunch/reception, and tours as well. It can be an all day affair so you will want to be comfortable! Also, remember to iron you clothes and clean any scuffs off of your shoes the night before. As for hair, I always wear mine down and straightened with my layers curving my face. However, if you are someone who is easily distracted by your hair and will be tempted to play with it- don't be afraid to pull it back. Wear light make-up, subtle jewelry-a watch, soft smelling perfume, and make sure your nails are clean and free of chipping nail polish (avoid wearing any bright nail polish).
7. The day of the interview!
Wake up early enough so you are not rushed. Pack in your purse some light make-up to touch up, mints, hair frizz control, and your notes so you can prepare as you wait. Get to your interview early but not before the scheduled arriving time. Stay focused and calm, people will honestly be judging you all day- so don't snooze during information sessions or roll your eyes are the obnoxious girl next to you. There will probably be other high school students there, you can talk to them but remember that you may not even see them after today, it is better to talk to the university's staff members and students. These individuals will be able to answer any last minute questions and possible be able to provide you with some very help tips and insight. Try to find your admissions counselor and talk to him or her as well. Remember to not be afraid to ask questions and always be polite and thankful! One thing that can really set you apart is writing a thank you note. I bring blank, plain thank you cards with me so on the car ride home I can hand write thank you notes to those who interviewed me as well as the general admissions staff of the school, that way when I get home I can mail them asap.

Happy (Late) Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day
Oops! I forgot to post on Valentine's Day! Valentine's day should really be a week long celebration because there is so much love to be share and spread- the world could really use some more love. Anyway, I decided who really cares if I post five days late so..
Five Things I Love About Valentine's Day:
1. Pink of course!
As you should know, pink is my most favorite color.
2. Love!
Valentine's day is truly all about love, weather you are single or not. Everyone has someone in her life who loves her for who she is be it a mother, father, friends, siblings, or significant other. It is a great day to show those you love and those who love you how much you love and appreciate them.
3. Making fun valentines!
This year I bough tiny pink paper bags, filled them with goodies, inserted personal cards, closed them with a fold and pink washi tape and lastly- monogramed them. I love seeing how much joy people receive from even the tiny notes and candy I gave out.
4. Roses!
I love when my parents or boyfriend give me flowers- especially roses weather they are white, pink or red I like them all. This year I was lucky enough to receive flowers from both my father & younger brother as well as my boyfriend.
5. Sweet Treats!
Chocolate covered strawberries, heart shaped gooey butter cake, white chocolate pretzels, red heart suckers and tons of milk chocolate kisses! Need I say any more!

I hope y'all had a great Valentine's Day filled with love like I did!

Roar Week
Every year my high school host an annual spirit week and a mission week. However, this year we combined the two very exciting weeks and created ROAR Week. Each day we dressed down for themes- Baby Day, Outdoors Day, & Throwback Thursday. We missed one day due to the snow and on Friday I had to miss our annual senior teacher volleyball game and Purple and Gold day due to college interviews. The organization that Service Club chose was St. Louis Crisis Nursery and we raise over $2000 through apparel sales, basket raffles, karaoke, and penny wars as well as donations of baby supplies, canned goods, and children clothes. Way to go KOUGARS!

Yet Another Rainy Day
I refuse to let this nasty weather ruin my day. Like most, when it's wet, cold, and cloudy outside I would much rather mope around with my comfy sweatpants and oversize fleece sweater. But nothing makes a day better then a good outfit. So, my outfit of the day consisted of black gloss Hunter rain boots, Express dark wash skinnies, a Ralph Lauren cream cable knit sweater, and a black J.Crew vest. However, when I went out for a Super Bowl party at my aunt and uncle's house I wore a black cowl neck cotton shirt and a monogram gold necklace.

My Very First Post!
Hello everyone! I have been reading and following blogs for a while now and decided I would attempt to create my own! I am very excited about this and hope to figure out how this all works before too long- I know very little about blogging but I hope I catch on quickly. So, why have I started this blog? Well, I created this for a number of reasons, one of which being to share my life, and also to have this to look back on memories as I document along the way. I am not sure how this will all work out, but I look forward to sharing my life, inspirations and ideas with all of you!
xoxo
